Radical rest - Restorative Yoga

What is Restorative Yoga?

Restorative Yoga is a nourishing, meditative practice that allows us to slow down and experience deep rest. This has many benefits for the body and mind. It can also be described as radical, to slow down in a fast-paced world where busyness is the norm.

Who can benefit from Restorative Yoga?

So many of us long for the opportunity to spend one hour in a deeply restful state, yet this can be really difficult to do. Restorative Yoga allows us to re-learn how to rest. By using props to support the body, we can stay in poses longer, and shift into an easeful state. Restorative Yoga is the perfect practice to provide balance and harmony in the body and mind. It activates the parasympathetic nervous system, which governs essential functions like digestion, immunity and hormone regulation, allowing a restful healing state.

How is Restorative Yoga different from other yoga practices?

The longer periods of time in the poses, and the restful meditative state is very unique. We practice fewer poses, and always use props for support. The body is held, and deep rest can occur. Unlike Yin Yoga where you linger in a stretch, in Restorative Yoga you are fully supported by the props. You will emerge from the practice feeling calm, renewed and deeply restored.
